Plans for this year's 'Purple Tuesday' are well underway as Justin Tomlinson, North Swindon MP and Minister for Disabilities, Health and Work, met with key retailers to discuss plans.
Justin co-chaired the meeting with DWP Retail Sector Champion Samantha Sen, during which they discussed the exciting plans for Purple Tuesday in November.
Purple Tuesday is an international event which aims to encourage businesses to improve experiences for disabled customers.
It is estimated that around the world. the spending power of people with disabilities (or ‘the Purple Pound’) is £2.25 trillion – yet less than 10% of businesses recognise the commercial opportunities that tapping into this market could offer.
Any business or organisation which interacts with disabled people can take part in Purple Tuesday, and those participating must make at least one change that will improve experiences for disabled customers.
Justin Tomlinson MP said: “It’s wrong that some businesses overlook people with disabilities and fail to make adequate adaptions to improve the consumer experience for them; by doing so they are limiting themselves and failing to capitalise on strong commercial opportunities. Purple Tuesday is a fantastic initiative to address this issue, and I hope many businesses will support it.”
