MP Continues To Raise Awareness of Motor Neurone Disease

This week in Parliament, Justin Tomlinson MP has been meeting and speaking to people affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) as part of the national MND awareness week. MND is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone, and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific o...

Justin Hears About Exciting Swindon Town FC Museum

For Father’s Day a copy of the Panini UK Football, 1978 to 1985 book was ordered from Berts Books in Old Town. Much to my wife’s despair, I am not just a football fan, but to be honest a football geek. I am forever ordering old football programmes, pictures, and odd bits of memorabilia. In my Parliamentary office (where my wife insists most of is moved to!) I even have a book on ‘Dugouts’ from around the UK, something I suspect had a very small print run! Anyway, when the invite came from th...

Swindon Advertiser Column - Carers Week A Fantastic Opportunity To Recognise Work Of Unpaid Carers

Following on from last week’s speech in Parliament regarding children’s literacy and access to books, I was delighted to launch the Summer Reading Challenge in Parliament this week – something I have done for the last eight years. There can often be a dip in children’s reading level during the summer holidays, and the Summer Reading Challenge is a fantastic initiative designed to encourage all primary-age children to keep reading for fun throughout the summer break. The theme of this year’s ch...

As a fully accessible site with one of the largest hoist systems in the South of England, which can take users to showers, toilets and directly into the pool itself, they support u...

Swindon Advertiser Column - Work To Support Children's Literacy Continues

Many of you will know that one topic I have been particularly keen to promote in Parliament is the power of books in changing lives and the importance of literacy in a child’s development. As part of my work to champion this important cause, I spoke this week in a Parliamentary debate on improving children’s access to books. I have been active on this issue throughout my entire time in politics, as a Borough Councillor and as a MP. I was proud to have chaired the all-party group for libraries i...
